This one's become a staple in our house anytime a scratchy throat starts creeping in. It tastes more like a treat than medicine, which makes it a lot easier to get everyone on board.
Whenever a scratchy throat or stubborn cough starts making the rounds in our house, this pineapple ginger blend is the very first thing I reach for. Pineapple contains natural enzymes that help soothe irritation, and when you combine it with fresh ginger and raw honey, it works better than any syrupy bottle from the drugstore while tasting like a treat.
What do you need?
1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
2 to 3 tbsp raw honey
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Pinch of black pepper
How do you make it?
Place the pineapple, ginger, black pepper, and lemon juice in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the pulp, reserving the liquid.
Discard the pulp, or save it for another recipe.
Stir in the raw honey while the liquid is still warm from blending.
Take 1 tsp every 2 to 3 hours as needed.
Any tips before you start?
This keeps in the fridge for up to a week, but freezing it in small portions is a great way to always have some on hand. Save the leftover pulp for smoothies, it doesn't have to go to waste. Fresh ginger makes a real difference here over the dried version.
If cold and flu season staples are your thing, I've also written about the herbal throat lozenges I make with rosehip and marshmallow root, another soothing remedy worth keeping stocked.
Thanks for being here, friends!
