This Mom Hack Replaced Cool Whip in Our House
This has to count as a mom hack. I make a batch of this at the start of the week so Lady M can grab herself a balanced snack whenever she wants. We're not scared of fat or maple syrup in our house, and we love dairy. The maple syrup can be left out if you prefer, but we love the minerals and sweetness it adds to the dip.
Most fruit dips and whipped toppings you'll find at the store lean on high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, and refined oils to get that light, airy texture. Whipping cream and folding in some rich skyr with just a splash of maple syrup gets you basically the same thing, without any of that. It tastes just like the sweet dips we grew up on, but with a solid dose of protein and healthy fats built in, so your energy actually stays steady instead of crashing an hour later. Takes minutes to whip up, and it's perfect alongside fresh berries for an easy afternoon snack.
What do you need?
1/2 cup cream (we choose raw)
1 cup skyr
Dash of maple syrup
Pinch of salt
How do you make it?
Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
Fold in the skyr, maple syrup, and salt.
You can dress it up further by adding puréed fruit, extracts, or shredded coconut.
This is basically the whole food version of the cool whip and yogurt dip a lot of us grew up on.
Any tips before you start?
Serve alongside sliced fruit for an easy, protein-rich snack. Raw cream whips up beautifully and adds a richer flavor, but any heavy cream works. It keeps well in the fridge for a few days, great for prepping once and snacking all week.
If quick, protein-rich snacks for kids are your thing, I've also written about the whipped skyr snack my daughter takes to lunch, another simple recipe built around the same base ingredients.
